A lot can happen in a week!

Our devoted team of builders has made considerable progress this week.

The bare wooden skeleton of the new Hut gave us an early idea of what a magnificent building we are going to end up with. Charlie then had to cut over 150 noggins (yes, I didn’t know what they were either!) to strengthen the frame which took a considerable time. Then the enormous steel arrived to support the roof structure – causing Charlie and Bill some considerable headaches getting it off the lorry!

They also finished off putting in the septic tank and soakaway for the new toilet and filled them in.

Their next task was to clad the frame in OSB to give it more strength and begin the task of making it water-tight.

And as the weather deteriorated this week the Hut got a nice wrap to protect it!

We aim to get the roof on by the beginning of next week so then we can start putting the insulation in.

The new Trading Hut is now fully enclosed with timber and the insulation has been put in by Joe, who has been sawing away most days in the dark!

Charlie and Bill have been putting the roof and soffits on but the weather has been too wet or windy to get the roof finished. The roof is going to be coated with GRP, which is effectively fibreglass and will give a very durable finish.

On Thursday I was thrilled to meet Terry, the electrician, who took two days to do the ‘first electrical fit’ of the hut. This means that the cabling is ready for sockets and lights as soon as the interior finish has been put up. It really begins to feel like a building!

Today Charlie and Joe were getting to grips with the partition between the office, kitchen and toilets to stop them being blown off the roof by trying to work up there in the high wind.

Next we’ll be ordering the windows and doors and choosing the colour for the wood cladding.
